Many high school students live in the here and now, and they do not think about their future. They usually are worried about who is dating who, and what clothes are in style. The few who realize that high school is a stepping stone into the future are going to make better choices than those who think that high school is their world. Helping your teen to look beyond the superficial and make challenges based on future goals can be difficult, but it is necessary in this day and time. There are too many people who are competing for jobs, and the prices are only getting higher. Having a student focused on excellence can help open doors to college that would otherwise be closed. Being able to qualify for scholarships and other academic based funding can make a huge different as the cost of education increases. A student that has a specific direction in mind is less likely to get into trouble too. Being able to see the bigger picture, helps your teen weigh the choices that they are making. Planning for the future is a conversation that you should have with your child. They need to know what their options are, and if they want to go to a certain college, that they should find out those requirements early. Encouraging them to save for the future can also help them limit the cost of college once they are accepted and are able to enroll in classes of their choice. |
